Kuwait’s first ever Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

June 22, 2023 – To meet high demand, on May 28, 2023, Fawzia Sultan Healthcare Network (FSHN) launched Kuwait’s first ever Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This 60-hour program provided an intermediate level of care for people who could benefit from more than weekly outpatient therapy, yet did not need the intensity of a residential treatment program or hospitalization. The group met for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. 

The curriculum offered Dialectical Behavior Therapy along with a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to wellbeing that included psychoeducation, nutrition counseling, and mindful movement sessions. Interventions specifically focused on emotion regulation, effective communication styles, distress tolerance, attachment styles, self-care, anger management, and more. 

The program, conducted in a small group setting, also included case management, individual therapy, family support, and referrals for psychiatric treatment as appropriate. Participants were offered a thorough intake assessment, individual, group, and family counseling, specific skills to assist them in making healthy lifestyle changes while working to recognize and avoid triggers, coping strategies, and follow-up care.

FSHN is a non-profit organization, established in 2006, that has a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing high level personalized care to support long-term recovery. Along with assisting individuals, we also involve family through the process to help them learn how to communicate and become trusting supporters in recovery.
